Every person should have a will.

The COVID-19 pandemic has spurred new—and renewed—interest by Quad Citizens to make decisions about the legacy they wish to leave for their families, and their community. Now, the Quad Cities Community Foundation is teaming up with Board Member Cristy Tackett-Hunt, managing member and attorney-at-law at Betty, Neuman & McMahon, PLC, for a free, virtual estate planning seminar via Zoom. Attendees will be able to interact with the presenters and even ask questions during this one-hour seminar.

“Virtual Seminar: Planning Your Will and Estate” will be offered online on Thursday, June 4 from 7 to 8 pm. RSVPs are being accepted now by emailing Melanie Jones, development assistant, at MelanieJones@QCCommunityFoundation.org

“Creating a plan is one of the most important things you can do to support your loved ones and your community after you are gone,” said Anne Calder, vice president of development at the Community Foundation. “Inherently, people want to take care of other people—and estate planning allows you to have an impact on the people, community and causes you are passionate about now, and forever. We are so happy to be able to offer Cristy’s expertise through a virtual platform, offering her knowledge to more people from the comfort of their living rooms.”

The Community Foundation supports clients as they make their plans, and even helps people explore how estate gifts can be structured for greatest impact. “Whether a donor knows exactly what they want to do or comes wanting advice on what is possible, we are here to help donors and their advisors make the most of every gift,” Calder added.

Tackett-Hunt helps families and business owners preserve, protect, transfer and gift their wealth by developing tax-efficient estate plans and business structures that both accomplish client goals and minimize risk.

As part of her estate planning practice, Tackett-Hunt advises individuals and families with modest to substantial assets, professionals in all stages of their careers, farming families and other business owners. She cooperates with each client’s trusted advisors to understand their particular needs and objectives and, then employs a variety of tools to design the appropriate estate and asset protection plans, including simple and sophisticated revocable (living) and irrevocable trusts, wills, and powers of attorney.
