The Quad Cities Community Foundation has welcomed two new board members this month: Quad-City Times Publisher Debbie Anselm, and Attorney Mark Schwiebert. The two will add significant experience to the board and help guide the Community Foundation’s work and long-term regional impact in the bi-state region.

“I have no doubt that both Debbie and Mark’s vast experience in our community, coupled with their natural leadership ability will serve us well,” said Sherry Ristau, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “The two community leaders are on the pulse of community needs and opportunities, and will play a vital role in continuing our mission to transform the region through the generosity of our donors.”

Anselm has over 15 years of leadership experience with Lee Enterprises, leading provider of local news, and has been Quad-City Times’ publisher since 2015. Celebrated for her strong, energetic leadership style, Anselm will also bring years of community development experience to the Community Foundation’s board, having served as the chair of the Greater Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce, the Valparaiso Community Building Advisory Committee, and currently as a board member of the Scott County Family YMCA, Junior Achievement of the Heartland, and the Quad City Chamber of Commerce. A strong believer in the Community Foundation’s mission, Anselm is excited to begin working with a talented team, and will focus her work on directly impacting the Quad Cities community through outreach initiatives.

Schwiebert is a Quad Cities attorney who has served the region for over 40 years. With vast experience in estate planning, real estate, commercial litigation, and family law, Schwiebert has been on numerous community boards to which he’s brought leadership and a forward-thinking attitude that’s gotten a number of significant initiatives off the ground. Schwiebert is also the creator of a donor-advised fund at the Community Foundation, the Mark W. Schwiebert Fund for Environmental Studies, which awards yearly grants to programs that educate the public on environmental challenges posed by climate change and natural resource depletion. A passionate advocate for clean energy, Schwiebert looks forward to continuing the Community Foundation’s good work through fruitful collaboration.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to be welcoming such outstanding leaders to the board,” said Randy Moore, chairperson of the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors. “Both Debbie and Mark have long proved their dedication to the development of our region, and I look forward to working with them to advance our initiatives.”

Both Anselm and Schwiebert began their roles this month, and will be joining a board of 13 other Quad Citizens.
