Quad Cities Board Connections builds pathways to community leadership

Strong nonprofit boards depend on people who are prepared to lead, understand their communities, and bring valuable skills and perspectives to the table. Quad Cities Board Connections was created to help nonprofits find those leaders while introducing professionals to meaningful opportunities to serve. 

The inaugural event, sponsored by John Deere and held at John Deere World Headquarters, brought together 186 people. Attendees included representatives from 70 nonprofit organizations and 30 corporate employers.

The room was full, conversation was lively, and connections were made. Ninety percent of surveyed participants said the event helped them feel a sense of belonging, and 90 percent made a connection they planned to pursue. Throughout the event, nonprofit leaders and prospective board members discussed opportunities to serve on boards, committees, and advisory groups, laying the groundwork for new relationships and stronger organizations.

Board Connections grew from the Quad Cities Community Foundation’s Strong Board Governance Series, offered through the Hunt and Diane Harris Center for Nonprofit Excellence. Together, these programs help current board members strengthen their governance skills while building a pipeline of prepared, engaged leaders for the future.

The enthusiasm surrounding the inaugural event has created momentum for additional Board Connections gatherings and the continued Strong Board Governance series at the Hunt and Diane Harris Center for Nonprofit Excellence. Future corporate sponsors can help expand these opportunities, strengthen the nonprofit sector, and give their employees new ways to develop leadership skills while serving the community.
